The Storm Water Outreach Alliance is a consortium of South Dakota's urban public works departments, which are regulated under the federal Clean Water Act for storm water pollution prevention. Each Alliance member is indicated by an official logo. A click of each logo will take you to that community's website.
The goal of the Storm Water Outreach Alliance Project is to:
Educate South Dakotan's statewide in a manner that will result in behavioral/attitudinal changes as to what storm water is, where storm water goes, how storm water gets polluted, and what practices are available to minimize storm water pollution. This goal will be attained by:
- Establishing a cooperative alliance of the urban nonpoint source pollution entities, including the regulated Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4's), to communally invest public outreach resources wisely and relay one unified message to the public about storm water pollution, on statewide and local levels.
- Creating public awareness that storm water is everyone's problem.
- Moving the public to action and providing opportunities for them to be involved in storm water pollution prevention.
Additional funding has been provided through a grant received from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), administered by the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources (SD DENR) and the South Dakota Discovery Center and Aquarium.
